 The National Erasmus+ Office in Palestine Launches the Information Day on 2017 call for proposals

 Under the auspices of the Palestinian President, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, and with the presence of HE The Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Sabri Saidam, the Palestinian President Representative launched the Erasmus+ Information Day in Palestine with the presence of around 500 participants from both West Bank and Gaza Strip. The audience is represented by Ministries, Palestinian universities, distinctive scholars, representatives of embassies, NGOs and various beneficiaries.

The event took its place at the Grand Park Hotel in Ramallah and at Al- Azhar University in Gaza via Video Conference.

In his speech, the president stressed on the significant role of the European Union in supporting the higher education institutions in Palestine, particularly through Erasmus+ programme.

Eng. Adnan Samara – the president’s representative-  thanked the National Erasmus+ Office and the European Union for funding Erasmus+ office in order to build the capacities of higher education institutions.“The contribution of Erasmus+ in creating new opportunities for the systems of higher education, enhancing the network between the universities and bridging the gap between the Palestinian, Arab and European higher education systems, played significant role in upgrading the quality of higher education institutions in Palestine”.

 Dr. Basri Saleh, Deputy Minister of  Higher Education, Ambassador Amal Jadou, Mr. Moneeb Al-Masri and deputy rector of Al Azhar stressed the sheer benefits of Erasmus+ on modernizing higher education in Palestine.

 Dr. Nidal Jayousi, the Director of the National Erasmus+ office, in Palestine presented the new call for proposals within the European Union Erasmus+ program which includes information and guidelines of how to apply and benefit from the capacity building for higher education, Mobility, Erasmus Mundus and Jean Monnet programmes. The event introduced the opportunities to benefit from the different EU programmes; along with genuine experiences from successful projects. Dr. Jayousi urged the Higher Education institutions to apply to the different calls of the new Erasmus+ 2017 programme.

By the end of the day, comprehensive information was provided on the applications to the different programmes, the grants, and the networks with Palestinian universities together with the national priorities of the higher education.

Dr. Jayousi awarded the President of Palestine, The Minister of Education and Higher Education and the President’s Representative appreciation certificates for their support to the National Erasmus+ Office.

 Eng. Adnan Samara, the president’s representative, Dr. Sabri Saidam, the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Dr. Jayousi congratulated the winners of the 2016 call for proposals from the Palestinian universities, and encouraged them to continue their successful engagement in the Erasmus+ programme for the benefit of the Palestinian students and academic institutions. 

 Eng. Samara, Dr. Saidam and Dr. Jayousi awarded the following certificates of Appreciations:

 Background

 Erasmus+ is a broad programme offering European opportunities to the Southern Mediterranean region and other regionsin the fields of education, training, youth and sport with almost EUR 16.5 billion. The programme also adopts a single, unified structure with different key action areas: Mobility, Capacity Building in higher education and Support to Policy reform along with Jean Monnet Activities
